Production Project A

Out of the three options we could choose from for our first assessment item I have chosen to research a current affairs topic and construct a reference page around it. This page must give the "intelligent" reader a thorough background to the topic and provide links to other useful information.

At the moment I am stuck between choosing to research the current China/Tibet situation (a subject that is close to my heart) or the current global fuel crisis and its impact in Australia. Either way I will soon be posting up a link (under "cool links" at the bottom of this page) so you can all see the page.

The Unabombers manifesto

A great read if you think we are all going to hell in a handbasket if we (as human beings) continue to exploit each other, our natural resources and technology.

1. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in "advanced" countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling, have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering (in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering—even in "advanced" countries.

Blog Creation

I have now created a blogger account, the reason I chose this platform was simply that it was the first one I tried and it seemed easy. My next job is to try and work out how to create a blogroll and add some pictures and videos to my blog. I will also have to investigate the legalities of using youtube videos and mp3's in my blog.

Virgin Blogger

I am now a contributor to the interwebs. I have an electronic voice, a way of communicating with people that I probably have no right communicating with, people I don't know and will probably never meet. Perhaps I am being a little presumtuous in my belief that others would take time out of their lives to review my ranting but that is what blogs are all about, giving people a voice (whether it is heard or not, like yelling in a crowded pub).

Now that I have mine I should probably contribute something meaningful to the webspace, something profound... I can't think of anything right now but I will get back to you all.

For now I have to get back to work, adios.
